The exhibition brings together for the first time two extraordinary finds unearthed by the University of Siena excavations in the Montieri area. At the heart of the exhibition is the Fibula of Montieri, a rare gold and gemstone jewel, a masterpiece of early medieval goldsmithing, found under the floor of a church where it was most likely deposited during a foundation ritual. Alongside the jewel are the skeletal remains of a man who lived around the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries, perhaps a hermit who inhabited the woods of Poggio di Montieri and was venerated by the local population: the sacred building was built precisely to celebrate his memory. The exhibition, housed in the spaces of the Museo di San Pietro all'Orto, offers a concrete cross-section of material life and spirituality on the threshold of the year 1000.
Giornata Nazionale del Trekking Urbano 2026 – Massa Marittima

Il Comune di Massa Marittima aderisce alla XXIII edizione della Giornata Nazionale del Trekking Urbano, promossa dal Comune di Siena. Il tema di quest'anno è "San Francesco 1226-2026: sulle tracce dell'essenziale". L'evento prevede una visita guidata gratuita per le vie del centro storico, con un percorso individuato in collaborazione con la Diocesi, e un ristoro finale per i partecipanti.
